About McKinley School > After School Programs
There are a variety of after school programs and activities available to McKinley Students. Many are run by our dedicated faculty. Look for information regarding quilting, knitting and reading clubs in upcoming Friday Folders and our Weekly Email News. Below are descriptions of some of our most popular after school programs.
In August 2005, Wakeman Boys' and Girls' Club and McKinley Elementary School began a partnership to provide after-school and educational enhancement programs for McKinley students. Wakeman Outreach aims to meet the varied needs of McKinley’s diverse student population through improvement of students’ social skills, general wellness/fitness and performance in the classroom. The Outreach also helps open the door to future participation in Open Gym, after-school programs and leagues offered by Wakeman, particularly at the Stratfield Unit. This past year’s program included Preparing for Team Sports, Multi Sport, Chess Club and Board Game Club.
Wakeman After School Classes take place at McKinley during the school year. Six week athletic classes are offered in the fall, winter and spring, while Chess Club (3rd - 5th grade), and Board Games Club (1st - 2nd grade), are offered continuously throughout the school year. Registration for programs begins the first week of school. Programs start September 24th from 3:30pm - 4:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Wakeman's Stratfield Unit: Bus Transportation from McKinley to the Wakeman Stratfield Unit is available Monday - Friday throughout the school year. There is no charge for the bus, however, space on the bus is limited.
Membership for the Wakeman Stratfield Unit is $60 for the school year. The Unit is open 3 - 6:30pm daily and has programming during school vacations and days off. Members can participate in a variety of activities including Open Gym, Game Room, Computers, and Art. The Homework Center is open daily for students to complete assignments. For more information please contact the Outreach Director, Tim Cepetelli, call 203-374-1108 or go to Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.

Student Council is open to all 3rd-5th grade McKinley students. This program fosters community service and sponsors many charity events throughout the year.
