Save the Date for the McKinley Carnival!

One of the area’s best carnivals, the McKinley Carnival, is coming up soon at Jennings Beach on April 26, 27 and 28! Entertaining games and rides, lots of tasty treats, volunteer opportunities and tons of fun…what could be a better way to spend the weekend? Call for 2019-20 PTA Executive Board Nominations

The McKinley School PTA’s Nominating Committee is accepting and considering candidates for the 2019-20 PTA Executive Board. If you would like to be part of a vibrant team dedicated to providing enriching activities for the McKinley community, then please consider putting your name forward to the PTA Executive Board. Positions can be shared as “co.” Please note: you must be a paid PTA member to be considered for a position.

Positions available for the 2019-2020 McKinley School PTA Executive Board are:

  • President(s)
  • President-Elect (s): train to be President
  • Treasurer (s): have custody & maintain a full account of PTA funds
  • Assistant Treasurer (s): train to be Treasurer
  • Secretary (s): record minutes & attendance
  • VP (s) Cultural Arts Programming: identify, plan, & schedule cultural enrichment programs & events
  • VP (s) Membership Representative: recruit members to the PTA & collect dues
  • VP (s) Fun & Fundraising: identify, plan & organize additional fundraising and free family events

Nominees will be presented at the PTA General Meeting on April 25.

School Store Is Open March 8!

school-storeThe next School Store will be on Friday, March 8. The School Store is a fundraiser for the 5th Grade class and helps fund graduation and the field trips they will take this school year. The School Store will be open approximately once a month in the main hallway during recess. 1st – 5th graders can shop on their way to recess. Items range from $0.25-$3.00.

If your child has a pre-paid account, you do not have to do anything. If your child has not pre-paid, please have him/her bring in cash. Thank you for your support of our 5th graders, and a BIG THANK YOU to Suzanne Graceffa and Michelle Gurner for coordinating and managing this program!

Join us for McKinley Family Kindness Night on February 25!

We’re less than a week away from McKinley’s family Kindness Night! Join Principal Gingrave & the Kindness Committee on Monday, February 25, 6:30-8pm for an evening of family fun, activities, and learning about what truly matters most – how we treat each other! REGISTER HEREHaving a head count will help us more accurately plan. We understand this is the same night as the talent show rehearsal and apologize for the scheduling conflict. We hope parents who normally hang around during the rehearsal will join us after your child performs or even on your own. Come paint a kindness rock to place in the community with your child! The evening is sponsored by the PTA Kindness Committee and there is no cost to attend. *The weekend packs program provides meals every Friday for McKinley students to take home over the weekend. These are students who may be on free/reduced lunch during the week and have families with limited resources. Non-perishable items needed – mini single serve cereal boxes, single serve fruit cups, granola bars, single serve applesauce, single serve bags of chips/pretzels/popcorn, single serve crackers/cookies, puddings, and more. The program is costly to operate and we need your support. Thank you!

Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 19-25

McKinley is celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week February 19-25! Each day, we are asking everyone to do acts of kindness:

  • Tuesday, February 19: Be kind to your teacher or staff member. Write a note, draw a picture or do something that shows your appreciation.
  • Wednesday, February 20: Celebrate “Fairfield Kindness Day.” Read or do an activity with a lower grade in the Kindness Corner.
  • Thursday, February 21: Be kind to your classmates or other students on your grade level. Sit with someone that you wouldn’t usually sit with at lunch, give someone a compliment, help a classmate, or play a game with a classmate during recess.
  • Friday, February 22: Be kind to our school environment. Clean up after yourself, don’t waste paper, put items in the recycling bin.
  • Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24: Be kind to your family. Help your parents, a brother or a sister, or relatives.
  • Monday, February 25: Attend Family Kindness Night 6:30-8 P.M. in the cafeteria. More info here.

Valentine’s Dance is February 1!

Join your McKinley friends for the PTA’s annual Valentine’s Dance on Friday, February 1, 7-9pm (snow date: February 8). It will be an evening of fun, dancing, crafts, refreshments, raffles, music and more! DJ Marvin Parsons will be a special guest.

Tickets are $5/person in advance and $7/person at the door. An adult (over 18 years old) must accompany all children. Absolutely no drop offs are permitted and children will not be permitted to enter without an accompanying adult. Click HERE to download the ticket order form.

Ticket Orders for Family Fun Night at Bridgeport Sound Tigers Due Feb 1

bridgeport-sound-tigers-logoPlease join us for our annual McKinley Family Fun Night at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Webster Bank Arena on Saturday, February 9! The McKinley Singers will be singing the national anthem during the first intermission.  The game starts at 7pm (doors open at 6pm, singers arrive at 6:30pm) and tickets are only $18 per person (regularly $31). Each singer will need his/her own ticket to attend. Ms. Bettke will forward additional details for McKinley Singers closer to the game date.  Download the payment form HERE. Please send the form and payment to the Front Office in an envelope labeled with “Sound Tigers.” Ticket orders are due by Friday, February 1. Tickets will be distributed in your child’s backpack the week before the game.
